Silestone® is a compound made up of 94% natural quartz, which make it extraordinarily hard and resilient. This is the one and only benchtop made of quartz with anti-bacterial protection, giving it hygienic properties that are not to be found anywhere else on the market. It is an excellent surface for kitchen benchtop, bathrooms, floors and wall cladding using the minimum number of joints.
In addition, it comes in a variety of different shades of quartz colour, offering a number of decorative possibilities from a mere kitchen top to a project for a complete set of furniture. Silestone® is an investment for the future. Silestone is forever.
Silestone® can be used in any interior surface, including kitchen and bathroom benchtop, stairs, panels, bath tubs and bath surrounds, floors, walls, bar counters, tables and desks.
Silestone® has an elegance and beauty that can only be compared with the most stunning natural stones such as quartz or diamonds. The natural quartz of Silestone has a density all its own: it has a gloss, a sparkling gleam and a unique touch.
Silestone® natural quartz has a unique gloss, a sparkling gleam and a unique touch only comparable a few other natural stones. Quartz is one of the toughest natural stones on earth, reaching 7 on the Mohs scale (diamond has 10), resulting in a perfect combination of toughness and beauty.
Silestone® is not only well-designed, it represents colour. It is available in over 60 colours, ensuring there is always a colour to adapt to any décor or different markets where the brand is present.
Silestone® is a non-porous quartz surface that is highly resistant to staining from coffee, wine, lemon juice, olive oil, vinegar, make-up and many other everyday products.
Quartz has a hardness of 7 in the Mohs hardness scale (diamond is number 10). Therefore, whereas with the majority of other benchtop, such as those made of granite or melamine, which can get scratched, with Silestone® no mark is left. Silestone® is highly resistant but should not be treated with reckless force, care needs to be taken with knife blades.
The high level of resistance of Silestone® quartz benchtop to knocks, far surpasses that of other products with similar applications (granite, solid surfaces, etc. This resistance provides peace of mind in the kitchen when handling very hard objects (saucepans, trays, etc).
Such resistance is achieved thanks to its composition: quartz (hardness) and polyester resin (elasticity), and the vibro-compression system used in its production process. Silestone® is highly resistant but should not be treated with reckless force, care needs to be taken with very heavy objects and benchtop edges.
Silestone® offers physical and mechanical characteristics that make it a benchmark product and an essential product. It has numerous certificates attesting to its quality such as the Greenguard certificate granted by the U.S Environmental Institute and the NSF who recognises the safety of the product in view of contact with all kinds of food. Silestone® has also received the LGA "Hygiene" certification granted by the German consulting firm QualiTest GmbH, which recognises the highest levels of hygiene in products.
Silestone® also offers its clients and consumers an added and unique advantage in the market, a new guarantee period of 10 years.
If there are no significant remains of grease on the surface, a dry cloth will be all that is needed to remove the dirt. If the grease or stains are ingrained, a plastic scouring pad may be used with washing-up liquid.
For more stubborn stains we recommend the use of household cleaner CIF Original that should be wiped on the stain with a soft cloth and rinsed thoroughly after cleaning.
To clean the quartz surface more thoroughly we recommend a specific cleaning product for Silestone® benchtop like Q-FORCE (for marble-manufacturers and professionals) or Q-ACTION (for private use and consumers in general).
It is better not to use products like wax, sprays or sealants, which can eventually cause the Silestone® surface to lose its sheen due to the effect of such products.
The word granite comes from the Latin word, "granum," a grain, in reference to the grained structure of such a crystalline rock.
Granite is an igneous rock formed from molten magma deep beneath the earths surface, 60 to 100kms deep. Being less dense than surrounding solid rock it rises to the surface either settling just beneath the surface or erupting as lava from a volcano. The magma beneath the earth's surface cools slowly, producing coarser grained granite as the crystals have longer to grow; whereas volcanic lava cools quickly thus the crystals are smaller.
True Granite is made up of quartz, orthoclase, plagioclase, hornblende, biotite, muscovite and other minor minerals. The type of minerals present determines the colour of the granite.
Granite is a very hard material, it rates a 7 on the Mohs scale where talc is 1 and diamond is 10. It has been used extensively as a dimension stone and as flooring in commercial applications. Therefore polished granite is an ideal product for kitchen countertops due to its high durability and aesthetic qualities.
Granite is a very dense material, so it can stay quite cold to the touch, if a sudden change in temperature occurs in a localised area cracking can occur. Granite can withstand some exposure to heat but placing hot pots direct from the stove or oven is not recommended. Heat generated through large windows can also cause cracking especially in Black granites, which is very dense.
Granite is a very easy product to clean it is virtually maintenance free. Warm soapy water or a spray cleaner is all that is required for day-to-day cleaning. Heritage stone can provide specialised spray cleaners.
Most granites do not require sealing as they have a low porosity, any spills should be wiped clean as soon a possible as soakage can occur. Lighter coloured granites tend to have a higher porosity therefore we apply a penetrating sealer to these.
If you notice dark spots appearing when water is spilled contact Heritage Stone and we will provide you with the correct sealer.
Granite is tough, durable and easy to maintain. Each piece of granite is unique which adds personality and character to your kitchen. Granite adds a touch of class to any home it is an asset that will pay you back more than you invested.
